In Conversation with Kate Lawrence

The Bishops Avenue project in Randwick called for a home that felt warm, grounded and ready for daily family life. Interior designer Kate Lawrence brought this vision to life through layered materials, natural textures and a focus on flow.

We spoke with Kate about the brief, her signature design elements, and the details that make this home feel so inviting.

What was the initial project brief?

The clients were seeking a home that embodied warmth, earthiness, and a welcoming atmosphere. With a multi-generational household, the design needed to support daily family life, particularly in the kitchen, where cooking plays a central role. Balancing functionality with aesthetic appeal was essential, ensuring the space felt both practical and beautiful for everyone living there.

Are there signature design elements you included in this project?

Absolutely. Timber is a key element in my work, and it became a key connection point between myself and the client. We shared a strong vision for how their home should look and feel, and timber was central to achieving that, adding warmth and texture throughout the space.

What are the key features of the project?

The project showcases a beautiful use of Artedomus porcelain, which brings a refined and luxurious feel to the home. Timber features prominently throughout, adding warmth and texture that grounds the space in a natural, earthy aesthetic. Another standout is the staircase, which was designed not just for functionality but as a sculptural element that adds visual interest and connects the different levels of the home seamlessly.

Kate’s vision comes through in every detail, from the sculptural staircase to the warmth of timber throughout. It’s a home that balances function with feeling, designed to be lived in and loved.

Our handcrafted joinery and pieces feature throughout, from the kitchen and walk-in robe to timber vanities and mirrors featured in the stunning bathrooms, designed to sit naturally within the space. We loved working with Kate on this beautiful project, playing a part in bringing the vision to life.
